Ski holidays are the ultimate luxury travel option. The combination of exceptional snowy scenery, thrilling outdoor snow sports and brilliant drinking and dining opportunities every day means that you’re never short of new things to see and do.

If you’re a seasoned skier, then you might have a particular resort that you visit year after year. But perhaps you’re not overly tied to a particular location, or you’re looking for a change from your usual slopes.

In this article, we suggest five of the best places to go skiing in 2025 that you might not have considered before. Get ready for recommendations across the world that might just inspire you to book your next trip.

Niseko

Verbier, Switzerland

Verbier is known as one of the best places for luxury skiing in Europe, which is why it’s top of our list for places to ski this year. As the largest resort in the 4 Vallees area in the Swiss Alps, you’ve got a great selection of places to stay and places to ski, which makes it a good option for skiers of all experience levels.

Whilst you’ll certainly enjoy Verbier if you're more of a snow sports beginner, the area is particularly popular amongst those who want to go off-piste and enjoy freely roaming the slopes. It’s not really a resort that caters to families, which can be another selling point if you and your partner or friends are looking for a child-free experience.

Choose from plenty of luxury ski chalets in Verbier designed with authentic alpine style in mind, and enjoy kicking back in comfort after you return from an après ski. There’s a brilliant selection of bars, restaurants and boutique shops in the main resort village, so you have a lot of high-end options when it comes to spending your time off the slopes.

Arabba Marmolada, Italy

An Italian ski resort that often gets overlooked is Arabba Marmolada, located in the Dolomite mountains and often thought of as a gateway resort to the famous Dolomiti Superski area. This enviable location makes it a fantastic choice for serious skiers who want to be able to explore a huge range of different pistes during their trip.

Whilst snowfall in this part of the Dolomites can be unpredictable, some of the best snow-making technology in the world has been brought to the area to ensure that the ski season is never ruined by limited powder. You’re also benefited by the highest lifted point in the Dolomites, taking visitors up to 3,269m.

If you’re someone who takes your skiing seriously, then Arabba is an ideal ski resort for your next trip, with truly unbeatable access to some incredible routes. The more challenging aspects of the resort area also mean that the resort doesn’t get overly busy with families or beginner skiers more interested in the après aspects of the trip, which might be a selling point!

Åre, Sweden

You might look at skiing options in France and Italy and feel like you’ve been there, done that already. In which case, we recommend turning your attention to the biggest snow sports resort in Scandinavia, Åre.

This Swedish skiing destination is perfect for travellers looking for a different, authentic experience that feels far away from the polished and glamorous slopes of the Alps. It’s never overly busy, even in the peak season, and with 1,000 acres of terrain and some floodlit skiing areas in the evening, you’ve got a great range of options when it comes to the slopes.

The resort town of Åre itself is a picturesque area with classic Scandinavian architecture and a varied enough culinary offering that it has earned the nickname ‘Little Stockholm’. Once you’ve visited this year, you’ll be wondering why you hadn’t discovered the resort sooner!

Whistler Blackcomb, Canada

If you’re thinking about spreading your wings further than European ski destinations, Canada is a classic option. Whistler Blackcomb in British Columbia is undoubtedly the country’s best resort, and is renowned worldwide for its incredible terrain that spreads across over 8,000 acres.

There’s skiing for anyone and everyone at Whilster Blackcomb, from slopes that are perfect for beginners finding their feet to sections of the mountains that beckon skiers looking to go off-piste. You’ll also find some of the best Canada heli skiing opportunities in Whistler if you’re seeking a really adrenaline-fuelled experience during your trip.

Canadian hospitality is famous, and in the resort in Whistler you can enjoy this paired with an approach to ski holidays that does feel quite European. If you do decide to take a break from the exceptional skiing opportunities, there is also a brilliant array of other activities available, both snow sports-related and otherwise. If you’re skiing with your family, this makes it a great place to stay.

Niseko, Japan

Our final suggestion for where to do skiing in 2025 is a location that has been making a name for itself in the snow sports sphere for the past few years. Japan is developing as a top-rated skiing destination, and Niseko is a resort that we think you’ll be very impressed by.

What sells this resort primarily is the snow, with up to 14 metres falling every season, which creates truly unbeatable conditions. Staying in Niseko actually means you have access to four different interlinked resorts, so it’s a great option no matter what your level of experience is, as there’s a lot of different terrain to explore.

A highlight of skiing in Japan is that you can enjoy aspects of the country’s culture alongside more traditional snow sports experiences. Enjoy a relaxing trip to an Onsen after a day on the slopes, and appreciate the mix of Western and Japanese options when it comes to choosing where to eat and drink.

Whilst many seasoned skiers enjoy returning to the same location every year, there are a wide range of different resort options across the world which are absolutely worth exploring. From lesser-known European resorts to emerging snow sports destinations on other continents, we hope this list has inspired you to look further afield when it comes to planning your next ski holiday.
