Our Own Correspondent

A unique and intelligent medieval fantasy fiction with the need for truth at its heart.

With clever use of technological elements not usually found in a standard medieval fantasy, and a highly topical underlying theme, James Hereward’s novel is an intelligent read which is hard to put down.

The dissemination of false information and discrediting journalists is a common occurrence in the twenty first century. Hereward cleverly takes the reader to a different time to explore the ideal of completely unbiased, impartial journalism and the need for our moral compass to require everyone to do their best to tell the truth.

Synopsis:

“I know I frighten you, Mister Grey, but don’t be afraid of me. Be afraid of the man who wants the truth buried.”

It should all have been so simple: travel to the kingdom of Larence, learn more about the rumours of a war about to break out, and get back home to report on it. But Erasmus Grey is finding that his job is anything but simple in a place where newspapers are unheard of, and where the first thought in people’s minds when he goes around asking awkward questions is “spy”.

And that suspicion is just the beginning. Because there are people with a lot invested in this war, and the last thing they want is someone reporting what’s really going on.

About the Author:

I am an Irish writer, researcher and translator, and lifelong lover of books and fantasy fiction. My academic background is in history and philosophy, both of which I have found useful when thinking through the context and ideas behind fiction. I am also a fan of role-playing games, which are excellent practice for bringing stories, worlds, and characters to life.
