With approximately 3.89 million hair transplant procedures reported globally in 2023, and the market expanding by roughly 14% annually, Estenove’s Medical Director, Yucel Iskender, is offering expert guidance on speeding up post-hair transplant care and effective ways to manage visible signs of recovery.

  • Concealing Visible Effects During Recovery - A recent trend showed our patients opting for the Unshaven Hair Transplant Method; a specialized technique that allows patients to undergo a follicular unit extraction (FUE); where though the back of the head is shaven, a procedure can be applied to the front lines of the hairline without the need to shave their hair, which can minimize visible effects.

  • Hats - Lightweight, non-tight hats can be worn after 12 days, provided they are removed periodically to allow hair follicles to breathe. A lot of patients attempt to wear hats to cover redness. Redness is a necessity, and the duration varies by skin type, lasting from one week to three months. Fortunately, scabbing typically resolves by the 12th day following the treatment, fully shedding within around two weeks.

  • Hair Concealers - Starting from the third month, some patients opt for hair fibres and henna coverings, which are safe for use. However, products like spray, dye, wax, and gel should be avoided until the sixth month to protect the developing follicles.

  • Scalp Redness – I’ve seen some online videos may suggest makeup and foundation for this – we do not! This is generally discouraged during the initial six months, but panthenol-based water lotions can effectively moisturize and reduce redness during the initial periods of redness.

Iskender says “By following these guidelines, patients can confidently manage the transition from procedure to full hair restoration. Regrowth starts in the third month, reaching 50% of results by six months and full results within 12 months. Growth in the crown area may take up to 18 months due to lower blood circulation.”
