New restaurant L'Artichoke in the center of Barcelona

In the vibrant center of Barcelona, on a bustling pedestrian street, L'Artichoke has opened its doors. This new restaurant combines Mediterranean haute cuisine with a modern interior, incorporating touches of modernism to create a fresh and welcoming atmosphere.

The restaurant’s design was envisioned by interior designer Lena Zufarova, who collaborated with the owners to craft a cohesive visual identity — from the logo to the selection of tableware and linens — ensuring aesthetic consistency in every detail. Inspired by the restaurant’s menu, which reinterprets traditional dishes using fresh, local ingredients, Lena also drew from Barcelona’s modernist heritage. "I wanted to reflect the city’s vibrant energy and love for life, without forgetting its history and traditions," Zufarova remarks.

The restaurant, covering an area of 240 square meters, features several distinct zones: a cozy entrance area with small tables, an elegant bar leading into the main dining room where the open kitchen takes center stage, and a lush winter garden framed by a large glass wall. Original architectural elements, such as the rounded columns and floor-to-ceiling windows, were restored to highlight the space's modernist charm.

While the original stone floors were preserved, the main dining room was updated with elegant terrazzo flooring, complementing the modernist aesthetic. The bar, clad in teal tiles, pays homage to Barcelona’s tradition of ceramic decoration.

The color palette, inspired by the restaurant’s name, predominantly features shades of green with sepia undertones and vibrant red accents. The bar is painted in deep green, while the open kitchen and dining areas feature lighter tones, creating a seamless visual flow between the spaces.

All the furniture was custom-made by local artisans, and a vintage English sideboard from the 1970s adds a nostalgic touch to the setting. The lighting was chosen to create a cozy yet versatile atmosphere, with portable lamps allowing the tables to be rearranged as needed.

L'Artichoke masterfully blends gastronomy, modernist heritage, and contemporary design, offering diners an experience that is both visually and sensorially captivating.
