Mindful Weekend: 4 Ways to Relax and Rejuvenate on Your Own

After a busy week at work or a hectic weekend, sometimes the best thing you can do for yourself is prioritise self-care. It might feel a bit counter-productive, especially if you have a list of chores to do but taking some you-time will have your battery recharged to take them on tomorrow.

We’re in a new era of self-care and wellness, with around 90 percent of Brits recognising its importance and embracing it in one way or another. If you haven’t yet embraced this trend and don’t know where to start, here are four ways to practice some mindfulness and rejuvenate on your own.

Spa

Creative Writing

Mindfulness journaling is a great way to process your thoughts and emotions from the past week. Not only is it great for your creativity but it’s a mental health technique that is excellent for combatting anxiety and helps you understand yourself a little better.

You don’t even need to make it personal if you don’t want to. You can make colourful collages out of magazine clippings or create some poetry or short stories. Mindfulness writing is all about switching off from the stresses of everyday life and reconnecting with yourself.

Engaging in a DIY Spa Day

When we think of relaxation, naturally the spa is the first place that comes to mind. Unfortunately, they often come attached with hefty price tags which means they aren’t always accessible. Luckily, spas are easy to recreate at home for a fraction of the price.

Get your bath prepared with some essential oils and candles and turn on some calming music for the background. The warm water and soothing scents provide physical tranquillity while the mental focus on all these elements keeps your mind engaged. Don’t forget to treat yourself with a facemask at the same time!

Solving Puzzles and Playing Strategy Games

If you want to exercise your mind while taking a load off, stock up on puzzles and strategy games like Crossword or Sudoku. These logical pursuits help to keep your brain stimulated and simultaneously entertained.

Apps that offer bingo or mobile slot games offer an exciting chance to win prizes while keeping your mind sharp. Engaging in mentally interactive activities can help boost your cognitive function and in turn your mental well-being.

Take a Nature Walk

Nothing quite has an effect on our emotions and wellness quite like nature. Escaping crowded and busy suburbs or cities and replacing them with peaceful wilderness provides us with the environment for uninterrupted reflection.

Take a walk through a national park or secluded wooded area and pay attention to the sounds, sights and smells around you. A glimpse of a wild hare or whiff of fresh vegetation can be grounding and calming.
