Five ways to decorate your front garden for Christmas

The festive season is almost upon us, so it's time to think about how to bring that holiday cheer to your home. While decorations usually go up sometime in early December, planning ahead can ensure your display is a hit when people pass by. Plus, arranging your décor in advance lets you budget your spending a little more, something many might appreciate amidst the cost of living crisis

There are plenty of possibilities when it comes to sprucing up the exterior of your house, and here are a handful to spark inspiration for your setup.

  1. Go for the classics

A beautiful wreath on your front door sets the tone for your entire display. Options made from holly, pinecones, and berries create a rustic and natural look, while modern twists like minimalist or brightly coloured ones can add a splash of contemporary flair.

Why stop there? Place garlands along the windows or across your porch and combine them with tinsel to make them even more eye-catching. You could also double up on wreaths, hanging them symmetrically on gates or fences for extra curb appeal.

  1. Illuminate the features

Whether you prefer a soft glow or a full-on show, lights can create a magical atmosphere. Wrap fairy LEDs around your trees or bushes, hang icicle ones from the roof, or line your pathways with glowing stakes.

To make your space even more festive, consider adding reindeer outdoor lights for a playful and whimsical touch. Just be sure to opt for waterproof options to withstand the harsh British winter weather.

  1. Don’t be afraid to place Christmas trees outside

These aren’t just for the living room! Buy an extra one (or three) and place them proudly around your property to share Christmas cheer with your neighbours.

Dress each branch with baubles and tinsel as you would with your indoor one and turn it into a focal point of your garden. You could even add some chocolatey treats to it and encourage kids in the area to take a free snack as they walk by.

  1. Additional seasonal decorations to consider

Old-fashioned objects like sledges or ice skates can evoke a sense of nostalgia, while quirky features like oversized candy canes or snowmen can inject some fun into your display.

  1. Do it yourself (DIY) projects

From homemade traditional items to unique ornaments, there are lots of possibilities if you want to get creative. Try crafting a snowball wreath using white foam balls or make beautiful garlands with burlap and festive baubles.

These personalised touches can add character and give you a great project to enjoy with the family, ensuring you can use the break to bond with loved ones.
